Drop WebP files. Each is written as PNG with its transparency intact and every decoded pixel kept exactly. Animated WebPs are written as their first frame.
What the PNG keeps
PNG is lossless and holds transparency, so a logo or sticker saved as WebP keeps its transparent background. Every output PNG that should be transparent is checked for an alpha channel before it is offered.
A lossy WebP's artefacts are kept as they are; PNG does not restore detail the WebP encoder discarded. Expect the PNG to be larger.
Questions about WebP to PNG
Does WebP to PNG keep the transparent background?
Yes. PNG stores transparency, and each PNG is checked for an alpha channel before download when the WebP had one.
Why is the PNG larger than the WebP?
PNG is lossless and stores every pixel exactly. WebP, especially lossy WebP, is far more compact.
What happens to an animated WebP?
This converter writes still pictures, so the first frame is written and the file is marked as animated.
Are my files uploaded?
Nothing is uploaded: the picture is read, converted and checked in this browser tab.
